Introduction

With the advances in wireless technology in recent years, the use of wireless communications is no longer limited to the laboratories and universities but has become a part of our day-to-day lives. The use of wireless technology finds its adoption in all walks of lives and all aspects of industries. With one of the world’s highest mobile phone penetration rates and one of the first Asian countries to offer 3G mobile network services, Hong Kong stands to benefit from the rapid development of wireless technology and applications.

In view of this, Hong Kong Wireless Technology Industry Association (WTIA) and Hong Kong Productivity Council (HKPC) organize the 1st Hong Kong Wireless Technology Excellence Awards (HKWTEA), as a professional initiative of Hong Kong to bring unique and significant recognition to outstanding and innovative wireless applications as well as to promote and encourage the usage of mobile and wireless technologies to various industries in Hong Kong.
