Clam Shell is used to describe a Shar-Pei's ear Triangular in shape, small, and a little buldging. Ideal Shar-Pei ears should be small and rest in parallel on top of the skull above the eyes. The ears should be proportionally small to the head but this is NOT the same as saying "as small as possible" as some would describe. Going for "as small as possible" can lead to breeding of withering ear without reflection. A proportionally small ear means a smaller ear on top of the head in proportion to the size of the head and still maintain a sharp reflex and movement in reaction to surrounding sound stimulation.
Ears of traditional Shar-pei comes in variety of forms. Traditional Chinese Shar-pei has the following names for the different kind of ears:
"Hinhok" means clam shell and "yi" means ears. "Wan" means cloud and "yi" means ears, but "Wan yi" can also means a type of edible fungus in the form of cloud like appearance. Traditional Chinese Shar-pei standard can be found in the Sharpei Club Hong Kong website.
